Faith over Fear: Savannah Chrisley at Southern Women’s Show

Faith over Fear: Savannah Chrisley at Southern Women’s Show

Special Feature

While at the Southern Women’s Show at the BJCC on Saturday October 7, expect to see Savannah Chrisley wearing clothes from her just released fashion line. She also says she will have news to share about a new hosting project she is completing in Los Angeles this month.

Best known for being one of five siblings on her family’s reality show, Chrisley Knows Best, 20-year-old Savannah Chrisley is blazing her own trail as the youngest person ever to appear on HSN. Her new fashion line, “Faith over Fear,” is featured on the network. “Faith over fear is just something I have lived by for quite some time now,” says Chrisley reflecting on the name she chose for her line. “I just feel like so many people, especially people my age, get scared of things working out…We don’t want to fail. So, for me I have to let my faith be bigger than the situation.” Chrisley says her faith in God is what guides her, and she sees the opportunities God has given her as a platform to share her faith and encourage others. “A lot of women will dim down their worth just to be with someone and that’s just not good,” says Chrisley. “I have found myself guilty of doing that and at the end of the day it’s not the right way to be.”

Expect to see Chrisley wearing pieces from her clothing line when she is in Birmingham October 7 for the Southern Women’s Show at the BJCC. “This was about designing something I truly love and I’m going to wear. If I’m not going to wear it, why would I expect anyone else to,” says Chrisley whose clothes have a modest but stylishly comfortable flair. You will also have the chance to hear Chrisley share behind the scenes details on what it’s really like growing up under the watchful eye of her protective father who she calls a huge faith influence on her life, along with the rest of her family. Besides an appearance by Chrisley, here are some other exciting highlights from this year’s Southern Women’s Show October 5-8.

Master Minimalistic Packing & Travel in Style

hatsAnyone who knows me knows I absolutely love to travel. I will take a boat, plane, train or any form of transportation to get to that long awaited destination. One thing I have not always loved about traveling is packing for a week – or two or three – into one suitcase. This packing problem was a constant dilemma for me-until recently! I am excited to share with you the secret to pulling off minimalist packing: bring essentials without being matchy-matchy and invest in ‘one-and-done’ pieces.Shades

Whether you are heading to the lake, beach, mountains, far off islands or that much anticipated European vacation remember to…

  • Bring interchangeable stapleswedge
  • Make a checklist
  • Don’t forget a LWD (little white dress)
  • Wear a pashmina, bring a sarong
  • Bring your own entertainment (iPad, iPhone, ear buds)
  • Sunscreen is a must
  • Take versatile shoes
  • Layer, layer, layer
  • Stick to a color schemeSarong
  • Stay cool in the shade with a hat
  • Chic starts with the shades
  • Never pack for rain
  • Carry travel sizes of your favorite beauty products
  • Bold accessories make a big punch
  • Wedges win
  • Roll instead of fold

These key summer travel must-haves will ensure you never get stuck at a cocktail party with nothing fancy enough to wear and you won’t spend a day sightseeing in your favorite heels. Put your best foot forward no matter where your compass takes you and always enjoy the ride. Happy Trails!

What to Wear When Exploring the Outdoors
fashion for you Afico long sleeves Marks OutdoorsThe days are longer and the sun is brighter- it’s time to get outside and take advantage of the gorgeous Alabama scenery! Of course, you will want to keep yourself fashionable when you are half way up a mountain, walking down the beach or camping in the wilderness. No worries; I am here to give you some fashion tips for playing outside without compromising your comfort.

Choose footwear that touts style and comfort. Available at Gus Mayer.

Beach Babe. Walking the beach can be one of the most therapeutic paths to refresh your body, mind and soul. The sea mist gives a natural lending hand by tousling the hair and flushing the cheeks, but what makes your look complete? Keep it casual and relaxed with a pair of shorts, a cozy hoodie or flowing kimono. In terms of footwear, gladiator sandals, trainers,Fashion for you Sorel_Major_Pull-on_Tan or everyday flip-flops are perfect for flinging off and walking along the shore.

Trekking Pro. One thing Alabama has is hills. Lots of hills. They are made to be explored and loads of fun too! But you don’t have tFashion for You SOREL_Joanie_Sandalo sacrifice your style for comfort. Start your look with a good, solid pair of walking boots and quality socks. I am currently obsessed with Sorel boots in every style and color. Another key item to have handy is a wax jacket that will keep you warm, dry and looking sharp. One of the brands that will make you look trendy and
feel comfortable is Barbour.

Remember if you are hiking up in the hills, temperatures can change quickly so layer up. Available at Simmons Sporting Goods

Camping Queen. Whether you are a girl set for the full-on camping experience or happier with camping in comfort, it can be tough to know what to pack for a weekend in the woods. Remember the Golden Rule of Fashion: Less is more. Invest in a cute poncho or vest that you can pair with any outfit to add a touch of understated glamour. Don’t forget a cozy warm sweater for the cooler, brisk evenings. Accessorize with a baseball cap, shades and a crafted stainless steel water bottle.

Now if all this outdoorsy stuff has you already breaking a sweat, remember in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Live in the sunshine. Swim in the sea. Drink the wild air.”

Color of the Year Reflects Calm & Relaxation

Vintage HavanasmallEver wonder why and how certain colors are more prevalent some years over others? How is it that the stores were flooded with turquoise one year and then, as soon as you are in the groove with the trend, it moved on to Tangerine Tango? How do we keep up? Where does the process of selecting the color of the year start?

There are multitudes of macro to micro factors that go into the process. The Pantone Committee travels the world where fashion rules; places like the streets of Milan, London, Paris and New York. The art scene also provides insight into the palettes and trends. Answering the question of what colors are being used in movies, cars and technology. The color must not only work as a stand-alone, but also work when paired with other colors. Questions are asked like: Will it look good as a lipstick? What about as a pair of shoes? Is it a possible trend for home décor? Would you paint your living room that color?

Now that you have a little background on the logic behind the decision making process that dictates what color your bathroom will be next year or possibly your future favorite pair of heels… the official Pantone color of 2016 is… not one color but two! For the first time the blending of two shades – Rose Quartz & Serenity – has been named the PANTONE Color of the year! “The combination of the two reflect connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” states Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

The warmer embracing rose tone and cooler tranquil blue challenge traditional perceptions and the usage of colors. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above giving feelings of relaxation. Whether in soft or hard surface material, the pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity brings calm and relaxation. What is gorgeous about these tones is they look stunning in all finishes whether matte, metallic or glossy. Not to mention the surprising combos with other colors that will completely refresh your wardrobe. Think greens, purples, rich browns and all shades of yellow and pink and you will impress yourself with these new pairings. For a little more splash and sparkle pair Rose Quartz and Serenity with hot brights or my personal fave, metallic. Gold, silver or rose gold transform the airy sea breeze look into a shooting star!

Winter Fashion Wisdom from Nations Outfitters

Nation OutfittersNations Outfitters believes and promotes the idea, that “It’s what you do in your clothes that makes you beautiful!” LisaAnn Muir-Taylor started the Birmingham based clothing company in 2010, after she was challenged by a friend to live out her life with Kingdom purpose. God gave her the vision to offer a clothing line that points mothers and daughters to see themselves the way God sees them- made in His image. “Today, more than ever, society is telling us what defines beautiful,” says Muir-Taylor, adding, “We believe that as we serve others, our hearts are turned toward true beauty and we begin to see ourselves the way God does.” To try to accomplish this goal, Nations chooses a ministry or charity per season to promote and then give a percentage of their sales to that specific ministry. The goal is to serve the Kingdom by promoting those who are out, living and serving, among the nations. Nations also sews a Scripture message into every garment they sell!

The company strives to be a fashion source for women, young and old alike, who want to dress modestly but still be totally fabulous! During the cold weather season, it’s all about layers. Nations’ stylists suggest pairing a printed swing dress under a front-knotted, long sleeve shirt. Add on your favorite pair of tights and a flirty poncho or a super soft and trendy, fuzzy coat to finish off the look! Another seasonal favorite is the Nations’ Skinny Jean that comes in a variety of winter colors. Adding a pop of maroon to a dreary all black and gray pants collection is a sure fire way to spice up your winter wardrobe! And don’t forget the scarf. The key to completing any cold weather look is to throw on a fabulously cozy scarf. Nations offers an ever-changing collection that can be the cherry on top of your favorite outfit!

Have a blast this winter dressing and expressing yourself through your clothes, but remember that true beauty comes from the inside out. Follow Nations Outfitters on Facebook, Instagram (@nationsoutfitters), and Pinterest. And shop with them online at

What to Wear for the Holidays

This holiday season, fashion is what you make of it. We will still see the 70s influence that was heavy this summer, some 80s punk, and the tried and true classics.  As you start shopping for your wardrobe and picking out what to wear to Christmas parties, here are a few tips to keep you looking your best.

  • Furs: A good fur is a staple in your wardrobe. Look for something classic that can be dressed up for a cocktail party or dressed down for a date night. Classic colors of black or camel pair with just about anything. For cut, I recommend going with a vest or wrap.
  • Textures: Look at jackets and vests in leather and suede to pair with sheer, lace pieces and denim. You will also see quite a bit of velvet this year. Grab a cocktail dress in black velvet and pair with your fur for the perfect look at your next party.
  • Metallic & Patterns: Pair a baroque metallic skirt with a basic black top for showstopper cocktail ensemble. For a more casual outfit, look for Breton stripes, a European staple, in a metallic. You are sure to feel like you are celebrating the season at a café in Paris.

Incorporating these trends into your already fabulous wardrobe will have you ready for any party and looking like the belle of the ball.
